Pashyo Sarkin is a highly experienced performing artist and teacher. Trained as a dancer, singer and percussionist, her objective in life is to share her love for music and dance with people of all ages, using her knowledge of cultural songs and traditions.
Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, Pashyo received a bachelor’s degree in Social and Economic Science from the University of Economics in Vienna. While in Austria, she studied classical, jazz and ethnic dance at the “Volksoper.” While living in Berlin, Germany, Pashyo also took extensive African drumming classes with Amadou Koitee and Stefan Gluecklich, igniting a strong interest in musical traditions from various African cultures.
On emigrating to the United States, she pursued the study of music at El Camino College in their Applied Vocal program, taking courses in music theory, piano and percussion. For several years
now, she has been teaching music in pre-schools, elementary schools and after-school classes, including at Motherland Music in Inglewood, California.
In the classroom, Pashyo teaches percussion, singing and dancing, with a focus on developing rhythmic accuracy, vocal expression, creativity and team-work. Using body percussion, she teaches rhymes, rhythmical poems and the playing of percussion instruments. She strives to bring joy and creativity to both students and teachers, while also making connections to the academic curriculum, especially in the area of math.
